Madius rekindles grassroots democracy in Tamparuli

TAMPARULI: The nomination process for the Chairperson and Secretary of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) across the Tamparuli state constituency kicked off today, paving the way for grassroots democracy to be kept alive.

Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Seri Madius Tangau stated that this election is part of the realisation of the 17th Sabah State Election manifesto, aimed at giving villagers the opportunity to directly determine their community leadership.

He said the JKKK election by voting is being held simultaneously in 94 registered villages in Tamparuli, making Tamparuli the first DUN in Sabah to conduct JKKK elections democratically.

“We want democracy to be practised at the grassroots level. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that the voices of the people at the village level are respected through a transparent, fair, and integrity-driven process.

“The entire election process is managed by the Tamparuli Sub District Office as the official secretariat appointed by the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) in collaboration with the UPPM Tamparuli office to ensure its implementation is organised, transparent, and with integrity,” he said when contacted by the media after the nomination process.

According to observations, the nomination process, which started as early as 9:00 AM today, went smoothly at the Multipurpose Hall of the Tamparuli Small District Office, where a total of 402 nomination forms for the JKKK chairperson and secretary were received.

Of this number, 25 villages recorded candidates winning unopposed, while two villages had no candidates present to register for the election.
