KOTA KINABALU: The Warisan party has announced its intention to put forward candidates for the upcoming by-election for the Lamag state constituency and the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat, describing this move as an initial step towards securing additional seats in the near future.
The party also expects that there will be at least five more by-elections following the election petitions submitted to challenge the results of the Sabah State Election (PRN) held last November.
Warisan has selected former Sukau assemblyman, Saddi Abdul Rahman, as its candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat, while Mazliwati Abdul Malik Chua will stand for the Lamag state assembly seat.
Mazliwati had previously contested as a Warisan candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election but was defeated by the late Bung Moktar Radin, the former chairman of Umno Sabah.
We honour the contributions of the late Bung, but at the same time, Warisan adheres to the principles of democracy that allow the people to choose their representatives in the DUN or Parliament,” said Warisan’s Deputy President Datuk Darrel Leiking.
Darrel told reporters after the Candidate Announcement Ceremony at Dewan Sri Lamag Kinabatangan on Monday.
