Sabahans desire a quality of life, not just ‘Gardenia bread’—Deputy Speaker

KOTA KINABALU: “The people of Sabah want a better quality of life, not just Gardenia bread,” said the Deputy Speaker of the Sabah State Assembly, Datuk Al-Hambra Tun Juhar, before starting the second session of the debate on the Supply Bill (2026) 2025 on the second day.

He made this statement while congratulating all 73 Members of the State Assembly (ADUN) who successfully received the people’s mandate in the recent State Election (PRN).

“I welcome the new ADUNs and wish a warm return to the returning ADUNs. The people have high hopes for all of you because you are responsible for uplifting the status of the people in your respective areas.

“Not everyone can be wealthy, but every citizen deserves a better life because what the people want is quality of life, not just Gardenia bread. I repeat, what the people want is quality of life, not just Gardenia bread.

In this regard, he emphasized that every ADUN must fulfill the promises made and act as passionate, visionary, and responsible leaders in advocating for the interests of the people.

“Therefore, fulfill the promises you have made. May you be a passionate leader, may you be a visionary representative, and most importantly, may you be a responsible representative. With that, I wish you all the best in your duties,” he said.
