KOTA KINABALU: UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has restructured the leadership of Sabah UMNO by appointing former state minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin as the new chairman of the state liaison committee.
This was announced by UMNO Secretary-General Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a media statement today.
Also appointed in the new lineup are Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub as deputy chairman and Samasuddin Yusop as secretary.
According to the statement, these appointments were made in accordance with Article 12.5 of the UMNO Constitution and aim to “ensure the continuity of administration and strengthen party coordination” in Sabah.
This leadership reshuffle comes at a time when UMNO Sabah faces challenges in re-establishing its influence in the ever-changing political landscape of the state, including fierce competition with local parties and dynamics within the state government.
UMNO has also called on all its leaders and members in Sabah to provide full support to the new lineup to ensure the party remains relevant and can play a more effective role at the state level.
The statement was signed by Asyraf and dated December 10, 2025.
