Warisan remains steadfast not to join forces with any party if it secures a simple majority in state polls

KENINGAU: The Warisan party has reiterated its commitment to remain independent and not to join forces with any other party, including those from Peninsular Malaysia, in order to uphold the trust of the people of Sabah in local politics.

Warisan’s President, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, stated that if the party successfully achieves a simple majority in the upcoming state elections, it will govern the state independently.

“If we win a simple majority, we will manage the state government on our own. We must stick to this position… it is not necessary to merge just because we do not have enough seats.

“How can the people of Sabah trust us if today we say we do not want to merge, and tomorrow we change our stance and collaborate with parties from Peninsular Malaysia?” he remarked.

He made these comments while speaking at the DSSA Inspiration Tour event in Kampung Skim Pemalan Tetiku, Keningau.

Shafie further noted that collaboration at the federal level is not an issue.

However, for Sabah, he emphasised that the state administration should be led by local parties.
