SANDAKAN: The Borneo Bird Festival (BBF) 2025 will take place at the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sepilok on October 25 and 26, 2025.
This event is co-hosted by the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club and the Sabah Forestry Department, marking its 15th anniversary during a recent Welcoming Dinner attended by Julinus Jeffery Jimit, CEO of the Sabah Tourism Board, and Walter, the Sabah Municipal President.
Also in attendance were Dr. Robert Ong, President of the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club, along with Past Presidents Cede Prudente and Gary Albert, and Dr. Arthur Chung, who represented the Chief Conservator of Forests.
During his welcoming address, Dr. Ong expressed gratitude to everyone involved in BBF 2025, including sponsors, exhibitors, and participants in various activities.
Bird clubs from Thailand, Singapore, Fujian, Vietnam, and Malaysia are participating in BBF 2025.
On the first day, Datuk Josie Lai, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture, visited the booths and activities at BBF 2025 held at the RDC in Sepilok.
Over the years, the festival has positively impacted many lives. Bird photography has gained popularity, birdwatching trips and photography have become cherished activities, and children are developing a deeper bond with nature. New “wildlife ambassadors” have emerged to promote this message, and bird fairs throughout the region draw inspiration from this event.
Visitors from around the globe are attracted to Sabah, motivated by the breathtaking images and narratives shared online. In addition to being a sanctuary for wildlife, the BBF acts as a gathering place for enthusiasts, photographers, and communities—both local and international—who unite to celebrate the essential role of birds, wildlife, and their habitats in maintaining our fragile ecosystem.
Moreover, the recent extension of the Rainforest Skywalk at RDC, now an impressive 620 meters long, offers an even more engaging experience for visitors.
