AGC Appeal Rejects Sabah’s Equal Partner Status, Claims Activist

KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, took a strong position by urging the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) not to contest the High Court’s ruling on Sabah’s 40 percent revenue share, which was praised by Pro-GRS political activist Aksyah Haji Nasrah.

Aksyah stated that the AGC’s plan to appeal the decision is equivalent to undermining Sabah’s status as an equal partner in the creation of Malaysia.

He emphasized that the High Court’s ruling in favor of the Sabah Law Society (SLS) aligns perfectly with the principles of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the revenue-sharing agreements made when Sabah joined the Federation.

“If the AGC moves forward with the appeal, it would essentially deny Sabah’s rightful position as a partner in Malaysia, a state that has made significant contributions to the Federation’s revenue since 1963,” he said in a statement today.

Aksyah praised Ewon’s bravery and leadership, noting that his position reflects a true commitment to Sabah’s rights and financial justice.

“I am truly inspired and completely support Datuk Ewon Benedick’s brave declaration and stance on this issue,” he remarked.

He further stated that Sabah rightfully deserves compensation for the unpaid revenue share that has not been allocated to the state for almost 48 years.

Aksyah also called on the Federal Government to fulfill its financial responsibilities under MA63, asserting that Sabah’s natural resources have long supported the national economy.

“It should be noted that Sabah’s natural wealth has significantly benefited this country. Thus, the overdue 40 percent revenue share under MA63 must be disbursed promptly,” he insisted.

He added that this reimbursement would not only restore financial equity to Sabah but also boost the state’s development to match that of Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
