KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak stressed that the political stability he advocates does not imply submission to any party.
Instead, it is about fostering honest cooperation between Sabah and the Federal Government for the benefit of the people.
Salleh said that differences in opinion should not be used as a reason for personal attacks.
“Politics should be built on healthy discourse and based on ideas, not hatred,” he stated in his latest Facebook post.
This post referred to a newspaper report regarding comments from an NGO leader about his earlier post concerning the importance of political stability in Sabah and why the state should not follow Sarawak’s autonomy model.
According to Salleh, in a democratic context, the people’s decisions in elections must be respected, regardless of whether they choose local or national parties or a combination of both.
“Sarawak has its own model, and so does Sabah. We need to adopt an approach that fits the political reality in this state, rather than simply imitating or outright rejecting any party,” he said.
Salleh also stressed that the fight for Sabah’s rights must continue rationally and grounded in reality, in line with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
