SANDAKAN: The Information Chief of Sabsh UMNO, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, has stressed that political stability is the fundamental basis for the prosperity of the people.
However, during the tenure of the Warisan Party in the state government, Sabah has experienced the most unstable period in its history.
According to him, the Warisan government formed in 2018 was not a true mandate from the people, but rather a result of the actions of six Barisan Nasional (BN) Assembly Members (ADUN) who defected from their party.
“A government born from betrayal will not last long. Warisan fell in the same manner, due to the party-hopping culture they initiated themselves,” he stated in a statement on Thursday.
Suhaimi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Libaran, remarked that such a political culture not only tarnishes the democratic system but also destroys the people’s confidence in the state’s political leadership.
“This is the true face of Warisan politics, which is full of tricks, devoid of principles, and willing to sacrifice the trust of the people for temporary power.
“Sabah can no longer be a stage for political frogs. Enough is enough; the people should not be victims of Warisan’s power greed. Only a stable and principled government can lead Sabah towards true progress,” he asserted.
He added that throughout the 26 months of Warisan’s administration, government policies frequently changed, leading to a loss of investor confidence, stalled development, and a paralyzed state economy.
“While the people are facing economic pressures and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Warisan leadership is busy with politics and power struggles. As a result, the people have become victims of political greed.”
Suhaimi also described the enactment of anti-party-hopping laws after Warisan’s downfall as clear evidence that the actions of that party have undermined the integrity of the country’s democracy.
