KOTA BELUD: The people of Sabah are encouraged to delve into the importance of Malaysia Day (MA63), celebrated on September 16, particularly in the context of religious freedom.
According to Josely Taising, a local figure from the Kadamaian state constituency, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) clearly ensures religious freedom in Sabah, even though Islam is designated as the official religion of the country.
He stated that Sabah is a unique state with a diverse community of ethnicities and religions, and the principles of religious freedom and interfaith harmony should be upheld.
“As we approach the upcoming Malaysia Day celebration, let us reflect on and remember the sacrifices of the past leaders of this state who worked tirelessly to ensure the existence of religious freedom in Sabah.
“In the Kadamaian constituency itself, there is a community of various religions living in peace and harmony… we hope that such harmony continues to endure,” he mentioned in his latest social media post.
Josely hopes that mutual respect for each other’s beliefs will remain a cornerstone of strength and unity in Sabah.
He also invites the people of Sabah, especially those in Kadamaian, to continue to unite for the greater good and a better future.
