Collaboration between national and local parties—the preferred approach for stability – Salleh

KOTA KINABALU: The approach of cooperation between national and local parties is seen as a more stable and resilient path, especially in a country that practices federalism.

Former Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak, stated that this approach combines grassroots strength with a broader federal network.

He said that there are two other approaches currently relevant to the political scenario in Sabah.

These include a coalition consisting solely of local parties or national parties without the involvement of local parties, he noted in his latest Facebook post.

Salleh, who is also the Usukan assemblyman, indicated that there are two different approaches concerning the issue of Sabah’s rights (MA63).

“One side tends to favour a hard slogan and a confrontational approach.

“The other side opts for negotiation and a structured process,” he said.

He remarked that negotiations may be slow, but they have begun to yield results.

“Progress is being made, even if it is not always visible directly.

” The struggle for Sabah’s rights under MA63 does not belong to any single political party.

“It is the right and hope of all the people of Sabah—regardless of background, beliefs, or political inclinations,” he stated.

The former federal minister emphasised that the real struggle is not about who shouts the loudest “but rather who can truly deliver meaningful results for the people.

“The most important thing is to choose an approach that brings tangible effects—one that strengthens institutions, defends state rights, and brings long-term change,” he added.

According to Salleh, Sabah is now yearning for development that can be genuinely felt.

“Not just numbers on paper, but changes that impact daily life—better roads, job opportunities that exist, and comprehensive basic facilities,” he said.
