Dato’ Victor P Paut – A Promising New Political Leader for Tambunan

By Suara Anak Muda Tambunan

TAMBUNAN: The Tambunan district was once renowned as a battleground for the formidable warriors of Sabah, particularly the Mat Salleh.

In the political arena, Tambunan has also been recognised as the stage for the political struggles of former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and his brother, Star president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

Now, a new political figure has emerged, often mentioned as a potential leader for the people of Tambunan.

This young leader is Dato’ Victor P Paut, who currently heads the Tambunan Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) division.

In an increasingly mature political landscape, the emergence of various parties and political figures should be embraced as a testament to the richness of democracy, rather than viewed as a threat.

Similarly, Dato’ Victor P Paut’s rise through the Gagasan Rakyat represents a fresh voice for the people of Tambunan.

As a vocal and people-oriented leader, Dato’ Victor is not present to undermine the other parties within the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

On the contrary, he contributes to the strengthening of this coalition by providing alternatives for the people—an effort that aligns with the democratic spirit enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution.

The right of the people to choose their own leaders is a fundamental principle of the parliamentary democracy in this country.

Since entering politics, Dato’ Victor has significantly assisted the underprivileged, particularly those who have often been overlooked in receiving welfare support.

His approachable and inclusive approach has made him a beloved leader among many.

Numerous residents of Tambunan, who previously felt neglected, have now benefitted from his initiatives and concern for their welfare.

However, it is undeniable that there are some who view PGRS as a competitor or even an adversary.

In reality, PGRS has never instigated any supporters of other parties.

Unfortunately, they often find themselves as targets of provocation and accusations.

In a democratic nation, differing opinions should be celebrated rather than used as a basis for hostility.

It is important to understand that PGRS exists not to create division but to assist in alleviating the burdens of other component parties, particularly in terms of public welfare.

In an era where the needs of the people are increasingly urgent, it is inappropriate to hinder any group that seeks to provide assistance.

The people of Tambunan deserve leaders who are genuinely committed to their work, rather than those who only appear during election seasons.

The citizens of Tambunan also have the right to support any leader they trust.

In other words, the presence of Dato’ Victor P Paut and PGRS should be viewed as an asset in the development of this area, rather than a threat to local political stability.

It is time for politics to be conducted in a mature and healthy manner.

Let the people decide, and may democracy continue to thrive in Tambunan.
