275kV Segaliud-Dam Road transmission line set to be commissioned in mid-April

KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Electricity is in the final stages of completing the upgrade project of the 132kV Segaliud-Dam Road transmission line to a higher voltage of 275kV.

The project that will be undertaken by Sabah Electricity will enable the transmission of more capacity of cheaper energy from power stations in the West Coast of Sabah to the East Coast of Sabah.

This effort will further reduce dependence on diesel and MFO-based generation sources, which are quite expensive and require very high subsidies from the government.

The 275kV Segaliud – Dam Road transmission line, which is set to be commissioned in mid-April, will be able to increase the daily power delivery from 200MW to 400MW to the East Coast of Sabah.

The Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Electricity, Ir Ts Mohd Yaakob Hj Jaafar, stated that the final works to upgrade the line are being carried out from March 22, 2025, to March 29, 2025.

“Sabah Electricity aims to complete the work before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration to ensure that the supply to users is not disrupted and remains in the best and most stable condition to accommodate the load throughout the festive season,” he said.

He said this in a media statement here today.
