SANDAKAN: The eagerly awaited Sepilok Jazz 4th Edition 2025 will occur on September 5 – 6, 2025 (Friday & Saturday) at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), featuring an impressive lineup of both international and local jazz artists.
This year’s festival will showcase a must-see performance by two jazz icons—two-time Grammy-winning saxophonist Ernie Watts and Singapore’s King of Swing, Jeremy Monteiro.
As part of a special tour marking Ernie’s 80th birthday and continuing Jeremy’s 65th birthday celebrations, they will be accompanied by:
Rudi Engel (Germany) – Bassist
Shawn Kelley (Bangkok/New York) – Drummer
Special Guest Vocalist – To be announced soon.
With a total of 108 years of professional music experience—Ernie with 59 years and Jeremy with 49—these jazz legends have enchanted audiences worldwide.
They will bring their unique mix of original pieces, classic standards, and heartfelt ballads to the heart of Borneo.
For Jeremy Monteiro, this concert is especially meaningful as he spent part of his childhood in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, making this performance a touching homecoming.
Sepilok Jazz 2025: A Celebration of Music & Conservation
In addition to being a top music festival, Sepilok Jazz 2025 plays an important role in supporting marine conservation efforts.
Organized by Friends of Sea Turtles Education & Research (FOSTER), the event aims to raise awareness and funds for sea turtle conservation.
By combining music and environmental advocacy, the festival encourages attendees to enjoy both jazz and the need to protect Sabah’s marine biodiversity. FOSTER President Alexander Yee highlighted the importance of this festival in supporting marine conservation initiatives.
