During the meeting, Lai took the opportunity to provide an overview of the program’s establishment, which dates back to 2003, and to discuss its goals and accomplishments over the past 22 years.

He proposed the introduction of additional events focused on the town’s history to enhance tourist engagement in the Sandakan town center.

Currently, the Sandakan Heritage Trail is well-received by visitors as a self-guided and complimentary activity within the urban area.

Lai expressed his hope that the council would maintain the cleanliness of the heritage route as efforts ramp up for the promotion of Visit Malaysia 2026.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Lai invited the MPS President to join an event co-hosted with the St Cecilia’s Alumni Association, titled the Sandakan Heritage Trail Walk – an initiative aimed at promoting fitness while exploring the history of Sandakan, scheduled for March 15, 2025 (Saturday).

Also present were Lily Aw, President of the St Cecilia’s Alumni Association, along with her committee members, and CK Teo, President of the Sandakan Tourism Association, who participated in the delegation meeting with the new MPS President.
