Sabah UMNO defends the rights of Kampung Sembulan residents facing demolition notices – Jeffery Nor

KOTA KINABALU: The interests and negotiation rights of residents from Kampung Sembulan Lama, Sembulan Tengah, and Sembulan Baru, who are currently facing house demolition notices, should be upheld.

Sabah UMNO Election Director Jeffery Nor Mohamed, expressed his disagreement with the demolition notices issued by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall, stating that they were issued “without any negotiations that benefit all parties involved.”

“Previously, the authorities (DBKK) indicated that no demolition operations would take place without the residents’ consent. However, what is happening now is that demolitions are occurring,” he remarked in a statement following a meeting with residents of Sembulan recently.

Jeffery, who is also Putatan UMNO Chief, emphasised that while the party does not oppose development projects in the suburban villages of Kota Kinabalu, negotiations with the residents that lead to a win-win situation, particularly regarding compensation, are essential.

“I am not speaking on behalf of the Barisan Nasional, but rather for the residents of Kampung Sembulan. The interests of the residents in that area must be defended, including those in Kampung Sembulan Lama, Sembulan Baru, and Sembulan Tengah,” he stated.

According to Jeffery, multiple negotiations have taken place, but none have yielded positive outcomes.

“In this matter, effective communication must be established to ensure a win-win situation for both parties,” he added.
