SANDAKAN: LDP Vice President Chong Thien Ming reiterated today the ongoing concerns surrounding house assessments that have been troubling residents of Sandakan.
“I have contacted the head of the valuation unit to discuss this matter,” he stated, noting that he is aware of the directive from the ministry instructing MPS to suspend the increase in house assessments.
According to the official in charge, the increment has been established through the IT department and will be printed at the front desk when property owners visit MPS for payment.
They assured Sandakan residents that any additional house assessment fees paid will either be refunded or credited towards next year’s assessment.
Chong advised residents not to panic due to misleading information from unrelated sources.
He also urged relevant parties to verify facts before drawing incorrect conclusions, emphasizing that MPS is the authority in this matter.
“All final decisions are approved by Kktp before MPS can proceed with the collection,” he explained.
He further clarified that the MPS valuation unit is diligently working to reassess each case of extra payment and will ultimately restore the normal house assessment through the IT department.
Another issue raised by Sandakan residents pertains to the term “pembentungan” appearing on the house assessment receipt.
The collection of pembentungan fees is conducted on behalf of the Jabatan Pembentungan Sabah, as explained by the official.
He expressed hope that residents will be informed about the additional charges related to pembentungan.
Chong urged Sandakan residents to be patient during the adjustment period for house assessments. For anyone seeking further clarification on this matter, he advised them to visit the valuation unit located on the 3rd floor of MPS.
He assured that he will personally monitor the progress of the valuation updates and will keep Sandakan residents informed of any changes or developments.
