Bite the Bullet – Is a crack looming in Sabah PH?

By Social Activist Remy Majangkim

KOTA KINABALU: Tensions rising among Sabah’s Pakatan Harapan parties were recently exposed in the local dailies. Christina Liew from PKR (Keadilan) claimed Sabah Pakatan Harapan’s top position should not be contested and rightly belongs to PKR.

In light of recent developments, it is important to acknowledge that YB Ewon Benedict (UPKO) was elected as the new Sabah Pakatan Harapan Chief, winning by a margin of three votes in early December.

YB Phoog Jin Zhe from DAP asserted there was no such arrangement.

The infighting among PKR, DAP, and UPKO exposed cracks in their alliance. It raised questions about unity and power dynamics in Sabah’s politics.

Both Ewon and Phoong represent a new generation of politicians who are beginning to make an impact in Sabah politics. Even if you may not agree with their policies and approaches, it is important to cultivate and prepare a new generation to ensure a smooth transition from the current leadership.

The adage “Bite the Bullet” seems appropriate in this instance.

Ultimately, the concept of a right to lead can be seen as unnecessary and even overwhelming in democratic contexts.

It is important to recognize the value of collaboration and shared leadership, as many may feel that such a proposition does not align with the fundamental principles of democracy.
