SANDAKAN: Calvin Chong Ket Kiun, the assemblyman (ADUN) for Elopura, has called on the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to promptly clarify its position regarding support for the state government (GRS) or otherwise.
He said that corruption incidents have been revealed over the past month and a half (45 days), yet DAP Sabah has not articulated its stance on the matter.
Chong emphasised that if DAP Sabah is genuinely committed to opposing corruption and stands firm on its principles, it should have the courage to withdraw its support for the GRS government in Sabah.
“Rather than delaying investigations and repeating enquiries as seen in many corruption cases and merely waiting for feedback after reports are made, such actions clearly deceive the public and serve as a shield for corrupt officials,” he said in a statement here.
He pointed out that four ADUNs from DAP Sabah announced in January 2023 their support for Hajiji’s appointment as Chief Minister of Sabah and the establishment of the state government.
The Warisan ADUN criticised DAP Sabah’s statement welcoming Chief Minister Hajiji Noor’s promise that no mining licenses would be issued, deeming it inappropriate.
The evidence indicates that this has been a significant issue involving corruption and large-scale scandals from the outset.
In the recent DUN session, all Warisan Sabah members, including opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, attempted to question the corruption case but were repeatedly obstructed by the speaker.
Conversely, the four DAP members had the opportunity to pursue the matter and inform the public of the truth, yet they remained silent at that time.
Additionally, Hajiji personally promised at that time to provide the opposition with detailed information regarding development and mining licenses, but nothing has materialised, raising suspicions about the situation.
