Unwise for Ex-Petagas assemblyman not to understand the roles of Chief Minister and Party Leader—Jeffery Nor

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO Election Director Jeffery Nor Mohamed has described the statement by former Petagas Assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang, claiming that UMNO lacks the moral authority to demand the resignation of the Chief Minister, as lacking in wisdom.

He noted that the former assemblyman appears to misunderstand the significance of the roles of Chief Minister and Party Leader.

According to Jeffery, who is also the Putatan UMNO Chief, the position of Chief Minister of Sabah belongs to all the people of Sabah, and therefore, the public has the right to express their feelings regarding the incumbent.

In contrast, he stated that the leadership of a party is determined by its own members.

“I believe there is nothing unreasonable within UMNO Sabah as suggested by James Ligunjang… it would be better for him to focus on his own party,” he remarked in a statement.

Jeffery emphasised that ongoing and past cases are decisions made by the court, and as Malaysians, we must have full confidence in our judicial system, as those decisions are final.

“Expressing differing opinions from judicial decisions indicates a lack of confidence in the existing legal system,” he added.

He also mentioned the calls from various parties urging the chief minister to file a police report against those allegedly making threats, referring to the informants.

“However, to date, no police report has been filed… What does that imply?

“I think Mr. Ligunjang would be better off strengthening the GRS machinery for the upcoming 17th state election rather than voicing opinions that lack public confidence,” he concluded.
