KOTA MARUDU: Despite numerous appeals from the residents of Kampung Masolog for access to clean water from the Sabah Water Department, there are still no signs that their long-held dream will be realised in the near future.
Social activist Jimson Majemal from Tandek said that Kampung Masolog has not received a clean water supply since Sabah’s independence over 60 years ago, despite being only 12 kilometres away from the town of Kota Marudu, located on the northern coast of Sabah.
Jimson, who is also a former assistant district education officer for Kota Marudu, noted that the village is equipped with various facilities established by the government, including SK Masalog school, a community clinic, and a multipurpose hall.
He pointed out that there are also buildings such as a Rela centre, Kemas kindergarten, a mosque, a village hall, a church, food stalls, grocery stores, and paved roads.
“It is perplexing that a village so close to Kota Marudu town has yet to enjoy clean water from the Water Department.
“Many residents believe that waiting over 60 years is excessively long, and they question why their village remains neglected, especially when substantial rural development allocations are provided to Sabah each year,” he said in a statement today.
Consequently, Jimson hopes that the Madani government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will give due attention to the appeals of the Kampung Masolog residents.
He also expressed hope that the Federal Minister and UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick will assist in bringing this issue up to the relevant ministry for the betterment of the community’s future.
