PITAS: The KDM has unveiled its latest manifesto commitments, which include the establishment of a bank and an airline specifically for Sabah.
During the launch of KDM’s Kudat division at Kampung Kalipuon in Pitas on Saturday, KDM President Datuk Peter Anthony highlighted these initiatives.
“It is essential for us to create our own bank, akin to Sarawak’s model. This will facilitate financial management for our rural communities, as all current banking services are centralized in Kuala Lumpur,” he stated.
Additionally, he announced plans for a Sabah airline, addressing the exorbitant flight ticket prices that can reach RM5,000, RM3,000, or RM2,000, making it difficult for some students to return home due to financial constraints.
“Although some airlines offer lower fares of RM200 or RM300, these prices tend to surge during holiday periods,” he added.
Earlier, Peter had outlined five significant pledges for KDM should the party assume government leadership following the 17th State Election (PRN17).
These pledges encompass education scholarships, monthly support for the elderly, housing for the underprivileged, reinstatement of dividends from the Sabah Trust Fund, and enhancements in land management across Sabah.
KDM has also expressed its intention to contest the PRN17 independently, targeting 30 to 35 seats, with the possibility of increasing this number based on requests from various regions, including those not primarily inhabited by Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, and Rungus (KDMR) communities as well as mixed areas.
