Residents of the Agricultural Land Area of Kg Mamagun in Sook Deserved To Be Granted Native Land Titles—Gundohing Edward Kandok

KENINGAU: The agricultural land in Kampung Mamagun, located within the Sook constituency and cultivated by local villagers since 1940, ought to be reclassified as government land.

Gundohing Edward Kandok, a former Community Development Leader in Sook, asserts that it is essential for the government to accord Native Land Title (NT) rights to the villagers who have historically farmed this land.

He also highlighted concerns regarding land acquisition by Yayasan Sabah in Kampung Bonor, Dalit, Kg Sanang, and other nearby villages.

“The ownership rights to this land should be conferred to the local residents, while Yayasan Sabah could consider developing land adjacent to the Kalimantan region of Indonesia, which holds significant potential for future growth,” he said in a statement here today.

Edward pointed out that the Sook state assembly constituency is not immune to water supply challenges, similar to other districts.

“Recently, the ongoing interruptions in water supply have been attributed to a damaged dam at the main intake of the water pump department, indicating a pressing need for the water department to construct the dam using durable and robust materials,” he remarked.

He noted that the water supply issues have led to the temporary closure of Sook Secondary School and SK Pekan Sook, resulting in disruptions lasting up to four days.

In this regard, Edward hopes the state government will take appropriate action to address the water issue for the benefit of the students and residents of the affected village.
