USBO Commemorates the 143rd Anniversary of Sabah’s Founding: Unity, Strength, and Vigilance

KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Bumis Organisation (USBO) is proud to mark November 1, 1881, as the founding date of modern Sabah.

Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, president of USBO, emphasised that this date, along with our national celebrations on August 31 and September 16, holds significant importance for all Sabahans.

He noted that 143 years ago, the British North Borneo Company initiated its governance, which signified the start of Sabah’s modern journey.

“Sabahans celebrated a century of this legacy in 1981, and we continue to honour the foundations that have shaped our state,” he stated in his latest Facebook post.

For USBO members, Salleh highlighted that November 1 serves as a reminder of their collective duty to maintain the unity and harmony that characterise Sabah’s diverse cultural and ethnic landscape.

“As we celebrate, we must remain vigilant in safeguarding our cultural pride and independence, steering clear of any provocations that could threaten our harmony and sovereignty,” he remarked.

The former chief minister of Sabah reiterated USBO’s commitment to fostering the spirit of unity, strength, and collaboration among the various communities in Sabah.

“Let us honour and celebrate this significant day alongside August 31 and September 16, and strive forward with resilience and determination to create a brighter future for Sabah,” he concluded, wishing everyone a “Happy 143rd Founding Day, Sabah.”
