KOTA BELUD: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) is committed to ensuring that the establishment of Tamu Desa facilities in Sabah and Sarawak provides significant advantages to local hawkers and small traders.
Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick announced that the construction and enhancement of 36 Tamu Desa projects in Sabah for Phase 1 have been completed ahead of schedule.
“For Phase 2, we have issued the Letter of Implementation Authority to the district officers and assistant district officers responsible for the development of 18 Tamu Desa projects across Sabah.”
“We anticipate that next year we will proceed with the implementation of the Village Guest Premises as outlined in the 2025 Budget.”
“The Prime Minister has acknowledged our request and subsequently allocated funds to facilitate the continuation of the Village Guesthouse project next year,” he stated.
He told reporters this after visiting five completed Tamu Desa in the Kota Belud region on Monday.
The village guests include those from Village Lasou, Village Lompios, Village Nahaba, Village Takulung, and Village Piasau.
Accompanying him during the visit were Azizul Alias, Secretary of the Cooperative Development Division, Street Vendors and Small Traders of KUSKOP, along with local leaders.
Ewon also assessed several proposed locations for the construction of Tamu Desa in Kg. Podi, Kg. Kinasaraban, and Kg. Pangi.
The Kadamaian state assemblyman noted that a total of 17 Tamu Desa have been established in Kota Belud during both Phase 1 and Phase 2.
“The number of Tamu Desa in Kota Belud is substantial, as I intend to personally oversee its implementation. Being one of the leadership partners here facilitates my monitoring efforts.”
“This initiative, being the first of its kind by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, will set a standard for future Tamu implementations,” he added.
