KOTA KINABALU: Tracing the unpredictable political history of Sabah, several possibilities may arise once the Sabah State Assembly is dissolved to pave the way for the 17th state election (PRN).
According to political analysts and the author of the book Gundohing Musli Oli, the first scenario might witness that the cooperation between the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) formed at the central level will continue in the Sabah state election.
It is said that the decision for the PH-BN cooperation was made at the highest leadership level, and the BN chairman, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, gave the indication on the matter recently.
“The unity government cooperation is said to offer collaboration with GRS, but GRS must adhere to the terms set by PH-BN.
“The terms and conditions of the cooperation include stipulating that 50% (37) of the 73 state assembly seats must be given to PH-BN,” he said in his latest Facebook post.
Musli said that PH-BN is also expected to offer cooperation to other political parties, including Warisan and PKDM, or other political parties that wish to cooperate if the terms and conditions are not agreed upon by GRS.
“The conditions and terms for other parties are the same, which is that PH-BN must contest at least 37 state assembly seats,” he said.
Another scenario, he said, is that GRS could choose to contest independently like GPS in Sarawak.
“GRS, which consists of 8 components of local political parties, can choose to contest all 73 DUN seats,” he added.
Another possibility, according to Musli, is that all local political parties will compete in a free-for-all manner.
“Meanwhile, PH-BN will continue to cooperate to face the upcoming state election,” he said.
