Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin is confident that the Federal Government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, can understand the aspirations of the people of Sabah who want more allocations to be channeled for the development of the state through this Budget.

According to him, the aspirations of the people of Sabah are certainly driven by a strong desire to see progress and prosperity shared and felt equally with the progress in other states.

“Our hope (the people of Sabah) is that the 2025 Budget will be distributed adequately to ensure sustainable and balanced development, especially in the rural areas of this state, can be enhanced,” he said in a statement issued here.

Bung, who is also the SabahUmno chief, said this when asked about his and the people of Sabah’s hopes for the 2025 Budget.

According to Bung, the hope for Sabah is to secure a higher allocation in the 2025 Budget compared to the RM6.6 billion received in the 2024 Budget, based on urgent needs, especially in developing infrastructure and basic facilities such as roads, drainage, telecommunications, water supply, and electricity in the state, which are quite critical at the moment.

“As is widely known, issues related to basic infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electricity are critical problems that haunt the lives of the people of Sabah in almost all districts.”

The state government has failed to address the issue even though it has been announced that the government has reserve savings exceeding RM6.78 billion, yet there has been no comprehensive solution to tackle this problem, he said.

“Therefore, our hope is that, through the significant allocation in the 2025 Budget this time, it can help expedite the actions to address the basic infrastructure needs for the comfort of the people,” he said.

Bung, who is also the Chairman of Barisan Nasional Sabah, said that with sufficient financial allocations, the government, especially the Ministry or department involved, will be able to implement proactive measures to develop rural areas, which in turn can harness the economic potential of the people.
