KOTA KINABALU: The head of state of Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, will spearhead a convoy of around 500 participants during the upcoming big bikers City Ride scheduled for October 26.

According to Datuk Osman Ahmed, President of the Sabah Big Bikers Association, this motorcycle event, featuring bikes with engines of 500 cc and above, will tour the city as part of this year’s Borneo Island International Big Bikers Festival.

The city ride is expected to be officially launched by Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh.

“This city ride is a key highlight of the Borneo Island International Big Bikers Festival,” Osman said during a press conference here today.

He expressed hope that this festival, hosted by Sabah, will significantly boost the state’s tourism sector.

Osman was joined by Mohamad Safani, a representative from the Sabah Tourism Board, at the media briefing.

In addition to the city ride, Osman mentioned that a variety of exciting activities are planned throughout the festival, including a showcase of high-powered motorcycles, sales of motorcycle-related merchandise, and food stalls at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), which will be open to the public, especially local entrepreneurs.

He noted that this year’s festival will see a record participation of 1,100 attendees, including 400 from Sabah, making it the largest event to date.

The festival will take place over three days, starting from October 25 at the SICC.

Osman also highlighted that the event will attract 300 big bikers from Brunei and Kalimantan, Indonesia, respectively, with other participants coming from Singapore, South Korea, India, the Philippines, Myanmar, and South Africa.

He said that the organiser expects the number of visitors, including those from abroad, to reach 10,000 people at the three-day festival.
