Penampang Development Plan initiated by Ewon serves as references for MPPg – Francis Chong

PENAMPANG: The Strategic Development Plan for the Penampang District 2024-2035, initiated by Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick, will serve as an essential reference for the development of the area, stated Francis Chong, President of the Penampang Municipal Council (MPPg).

He highlighted that the plan outlines five key strategies: the establishment of a major business centre, local economic generation, residential development, a clean and green environment, and the creation of effective and efficient governance.

“There have been numerous suggestions and opinions from community leaders, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and individuals on how to advance Penampang.

“We also have existing references, some of which may be outdated or no longer relevant, and we can utilise these as a guide. The most recent is the book published by IDS titled ‘Strategic Development Plan for the Penampang District 2024-2035.’

“This plan was developed in collaboration with Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives,” he remarked during the swearing-in ceremony for the Penampang Municipal Council members for the 2024-2026 term at ITCC.

The event was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, who is the Minister of Local Government and Housing.

Addressing concerns regarding parking fees that have caused dissatisfaction among some Penampang residents, Francis acknowledged the worries, especially for those who rely on vehicles for daily commutes and errands.

“Therefore, the Council is currently reviewing and considering a reduction in parking fees in specific areas.

“We are examining various factors, including maintenance costs, residents’ needs, and the overall economic impact,” he said.
