KOTA KINABALU: The 2024 Kuala Penyu Golf & Country Club (KPGCC) Invitational Golf Tournament, which will take place on September 28, will bring together 120 local golfers from all over the state.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Yussof J. Imbang, said the golf course, Sabah Golf & Country Club (SGCC), Bukit Padang, will be the venue for the prestigious tournament, which offers the main prize of a motorcycle for the winner of the ‘hole in one’ shot.

“We have decided that if there is no winner of the ‘hole in one’ prize, then the main prize (a motorcycle) will be up for grabs for the lucky ticket draw for the participants,” he said after chairing the KPGCC 2024 Committee Meeting in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

So far, he said, more than RM20 thousand in accumulated prizes will be up for grabs for the winners of the tournament, including 50 lucky draws.

Four categories were also contested, namely net and gross for men, women, and seniors (60 years and above).

Yussof said each category will receive prizes ranging from RM3,000 to RM2,000 in addition to side gifts (goodies) to each player who participates.

He explained that, after four days of open registration, the prestigious tournament has now attracted more than 80 participants and needs more than 30 more participants to reach the target of 120 players.

Competition system: 36 handicap stableford and tee off will run simultaneously (gun shoot).

Also contested is a novelty event offering a prize of RM1,500 to the player who successfully hits the bull’s eye, longest drive, and nearest to the centre line.

Entries for the 2024 KPGCC Tournament are still open to players, and they can contact Simat Juslin (019 588 3303), Patrick J. Angkee (016 829 6412), Walter W. Angang (019 881 0099), and Dulimin Ajak (019 313).

Senator Datuk Nelson Angang, who donated the main prize, was honoured to take the first ‘tee off’ in conjunction with the opening of the tournament.

According to him, KPGCC is currently in the process of developing an 18-hole standard golf course on a 107-acre site in Bukit Nuri, Kuala Penyu, near Menumbok and Labuan Island.

Yussof said the annual tournament was to promote the Kuala Penyu district in the golf tourism industry.

KPGCC president Tan Sri Wences Angang and community activist Dato’ Sri Sahran Untai were among the 18 KPGCC members who also attended the tournament committee meeting.
