KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah UMNO appreciates the commitment of UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to support them in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN), referred to as the “Sailang Clash” by political analysts.
Beaufort UMNO chief Datuk Awang Aslee Lakat expressed that Ahmad Zahid’s comments during a briefing with UMNO representatives at Merdeka Hall, PWTC, yesterday, which called for support from UMNO branches in Peninsular Malaysia, serve as a strong motivation for Sabah UMNO to aim for success in this election.
“The President’s concern drives us (Sabah UMNO) to keep pushing forward. We are grateful for his commitment to UMNO, especially in Sabah,” he stated after the briefing at PWTC.
During the meeting, Ahmad Zahid indicated that after the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan and the Mahkota by-election in Johor, the focus would shift to supporting Sabah UMNO in the state election.
“Following these two by-elections, our attention will turn to Sabah, where UMNO will participate in the state election. We need to provide assistance because the leaders of UMNO Sabah have supported us in various state and by-elections in the Peninsular,” he mentioned.
Awang Aslee, who also serves as the BN Chairman of Beaufort, highlighted that the President’s call fosters a spirit of teamwork, which is vital for UMNO in overcoming challenges and is essential for the party’s success.
“UMNO Sabah will keep working hard, drawing inspiration from BN’s recent win in the Nenggiri by-election,” he added.
Awang Aslee emphasised the importance of collaboration, regardless of which party is allied with UMNO.
He said the party leadership is responsible for deciding which coalition party will work with UMNO.
