SESB is transitioning to the utilisation of smart metres – Madius

KOTA KINABALU: The Chairman of Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB), Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, has announced that SESB is now in the process of implementing smart metres to record the amount of electricity usage in each premise and residence.

According to him, for this purpose, SESB has already opened a tender to invite qualified companies to successfully carry out this initiative.

“The tender was opened on April 16, 2024, and closed on June 12th.

“At the moment, it is undergoing tender analysis before being presented to the Tender Management Committee and subsequently to the Procurement and Finance Committee of the Board,” he said.

He made this statement in response to a suggestion by the Chairman of the National Consumer Foundation Malaysia (YPNM) Sabah, David Chan.

According to Madius, David’s suggestion for the government to use smart metres is reasonable because it has various benefits and advantages compared to conventional metres.

“I would like to inform you that SESB is indeed moving in that direction, and it is hoped that all the ongoing processes will proceed smoothly.

In addition, Madius, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tuaran, encourages the public and users to download and register for the mySESB application on their mobile phones.

“Through this application, various services can be carried out with just a few taps.

“For example, accessing the latest bill statements and making direct bill payments to the SESB system without having to wait for three working days like other payment methods.

“Users can also obtain real-time information regarding maintenance in a particular area, lodge complaints and check the status of actions, apply for new metres, and much more,” explained Madius.

He stated that the mySESB service is an initiative to facilitate customers in conducting transactions without any hassle.
