KOTA BELUD: Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick has approved an allocation of RM200,000 to upgrade the community market to the village market in Kampung Melangkap Tiong.
He said that the community market in the village, which has been established for quite some time and is still operational, needs to be upgraded for the comfort of small-scale entrepreneurs in the market.
“This is one of the new initiatives that I have introduced in my ministry to assist entrepreneurs and market traders, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.
“This year, a total of RM20 million has been allocated to implement the Village Market Project in rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak, which involves upgrading existing community markets or building better village market facilities.
“Among those who will benefit is the community market in Kg. Melangkap Tiong, which has been in operation for quite some time, and I believe there is a need to upgrade and build more comfortable market facilities for market entrepreneurs in this area.
“Therefore, we have approved an allocation of RM200,000 to upgrade the village market facilities in Kg. Melangkap Tiong,” he said.
He made these remarks after officiating the Community Zone Melangkap Cooperative Promotion Programme in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival Celebration at Kg. Melangkap Tiong on Saturday.
Also present were the Director of the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) Sabah, Matias Kundapin, Chairman of the Organising Committee Anichlose Kasimin, representatives from ministry agencies, and village residents.
Ewon stated that the initial allocation for the implementation of the Village Market Project in Sabah will be handed over to the Sabah government during the launch of the Madani Tekun Carnival and One District, One Industry (SDSI) Showcase in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival on May 11 in Kuala Penyu.
