MPI receives 488 entries for HKM 2023

CYBERJAYA: MPI has received a total of 488 entries from 55 media organisations to compete for the Malaysian Press Institute PETRONAS Journalism Award 2023 (HKM 2023).

The journalism works produced and published throughout 2023 will vie for the RM 450,000 cash prize sponsored by PETRONAS.

MPI’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mustapa Omar, said, “HKM 2023 has recorded the highest number of entries received by MPI since the introduction of the Malaysian Journalism Award in 1980.”.

This year shows a projected increase of 21%, or 488 entries, compared to the 386 received in the previous year.

The highest number of entries was received from the Best Video News category with 65 entries, followed by the Best Photojournalism category with 44 entries, and the Best News Report category with 37 entries. MPI also received two nominations for the National Journalist Figure.”

Mustapa added, “This increase in participation is driven by the addition of six new categories introduced, namely Best ESG Journalism, Best Video Interview, Best Live News Cross, Best Radio Documentary, Best Radio Interview, and Best Live News Cross.”

The award presentation ceremony at the Malaysian Journalist Night will be held on June 7, 2024, at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

This annual event organized by MPI aims to recognize the best journalism works of local media practitioners in the competition year.
