KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR chairman Sangkar Rasam has rejected demands for his resignation, asserting that the criticism directed towards his leadership has impacted the chapter’s preparations for the upcoming state elections.
Highlighting the history of internal conflicts within Sabah PKR, Sangkar urged the party members to cease wasting time on such issues and instead concentrate on the well-being and progress of the community.
Dismissing the allegations made by PKR Kota Marudu division chief Sazalye Donol that he has been ineffective in leading the state chapter and failed to organize programs to strengthen it, Sangkar labeled the claims as baseless accusations.
Sangkar said in a release, “These accusations do not represent the genuine sentiments of Sabah PKR’s grassroots. Not only have these allegations brought shame to Sabah PKR, but they have also impeded the party’s readiness for the forthcoming state elections”.
“I want to stress that I will persist in carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to me by Prime Minister (and PKR president) Anwar Ibrahim with dedication and honesty.
“I will remain steadfast in my commitment to ensure that PKR continues to contribute to the advancement and prosperity of Sabah,” he said.
During a press briefing in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday, Sazalye disclosed that 15 out of the 26 Sabah division chiefs had demanded Sangkar’s resignation as the state chairman and had exited a state leadership meeting after expressing their dissatisfaction with his leadership.
