Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said this is because most of the rural areas in Kiulu rely on gravity/hill water sources.

According to him, the absence of pipe connections by the Sabah State Water Department (JANS) in the rural areas has resulted in the inability to distribute clean water.

Ir Shahelmey, who is also the State Minister of Works , said this in a statement here today.

He said JANS has received complaints regarding this issue and is working to find the best solution.

He said the long-term solution to this issue has been included in the Rural Water Supply Project (BALB) under the allocation of the Ministry of Rural Development and Territories.

Ir Shahelmey said among the areas included in the BALB project are Kg. Bukit Giling, Kg. Ulu Bakut, Tuara 2018/2019 Sabah State Reticulation System in the Kota Kinabalu area.

In addition, he said other areas involved in the BALB project are the upper Kiulu area and its surroundings, and Kg. Penimbawan, Kg. Kapa-Sinalapak, and the surrounding areas.

He said JANS is facing difficulties in delivering water due to insufficient and limited water tankers.

“However, affected residents can obtain a clean water supply at the Tamparuli District Office until the gravity/hill water source is restored,” he said.
