KOTA KINABALU: The e-hailing driver murder case involving former Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) officer Mat Zaki Zain and seven others has taken a surprising turn.
According to Berita Harian, the Tawau High Court has acquitted all eight individuals after the deceased’s former wife confessed to the crime.
Deputy public prosecutor Khairul Azreem Mamat informed the court that the prosecution would not proceed with the case due to new developments.
The 23rd witness, Nurimah Juli, admitted to killing Nurman Bakaratu, her former husband, at a specific location and time.
Mat Zaki, along with six police officers and one civilian, faced charges related to the murder.
The accused were charged under the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty if convicted.
