KOTA BELUf: UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has refuted claims that his visit to Sabah was aimed at addressing political tensions surrounding the potential alliance between Sabah UMNO and Warisan.
He clarified that his visit was solely for official working purposes.
Zahid did, however, have a meeting with the state UMNO leadership to discuss various political matters, particularly the organization of party machinery structures following the conclusion of the federal election in November 2022 and the elections in six peninsula states in August 2023.
Speaking at a press conference in Kota Belud, Zahid, who is also the rural and regional development minister, attended the launch of the Kadamaian Development Plan at the invitation of local assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick and Upko president, who is also the federal entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister.
Zahid expressed his anticipation that Sabah would be the next state to hold an election, even though the assembly’s term is set to expire in 2025.
He stressed that UMNO would only decide on political cooperation once the Sabah assembly is dissolved.
