KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak believed that Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was actually hoping to make a comeback in order to try his hand at becoming prime minister again, rather than the other way around.
He said people might wonder whether Muhyiddin is trying to mislead his political adversaries.
According to Salleh, the former Prime Minister announced that he would step down as President of Bersatu and then cancelled it again after recent calls for support for him to stay on.
“Most people are wondering whether Muhyiddin employed the strategy of trickery and deception to lullaby his internal adversaries.
“I wonder who among his political adversaries would believe his recent statements and eventually become the victims of deceit,” he said in his latest Facebook posting.
On the other hand, Salah said Muhyiddin would also want to camouflage his real intentions and doesn’t want the Prime Minister to know his political ambitions, “which he kept close to his heart.”
“We have to admire his method of employing the indirect approach as a strategy in order to avoid direct confrontation,” he said.
The Usukan assemblyman said a few years ago that everyone had the impression that he had a serious case of cancer.
“Then Sheraton moves happened, and he became the Prime Minister. This time, he openly declared that he wanted to step down, only to turn back.
“We should just wait for his true intentions to surface,” he said.
Salleh is of the opinion that Muhyiddin has always harboured the ambition of becoming the Prime Minister again, even though he is no match for PMX.
“Despite that fact, he is bidding for time and doesn’t want people to make comparisons of approval ratings between himself and PMX,” he said.
