LABUAN:The Labuan International Ferry Terminal is in the midst of an extensive refurbishment project aimed at enhancing its facilities and creating a more welcoming atmosphere for its users and travellers.
The project commenced in September and is scheduled for completion by January next year.
LDA Holdings Sdn Bhd, the management company responsible for the terminal, is overseeing the renovation effort, with close cooperation from the building owner of Labuan Corporation (LC).
LDA Holdings’ chief executive officer Noor Halim Zaini said the Labuan International Ferry Terminal has served as a crucial transportation hub connecting Labuan to various destinations in Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.
“While it has played an essential role in facilitating transportation services, it had not undergone a substantial refurbishment for some time.
“Recognising the need to upgrade and modernise the facility, LDA Holdings Sdn Bhd initiated this project to better serve the terminal’s users and the public,” he told Bernama today.
While emphasising the importance of the refurbishment, Noor Halim said the primary goal of this renovation is to provide a more conducive atmosphere and improved facilities for terminal users and travellers.
“The upgrade is expected to enhance the overall experience for commuters, whether they are residents of Labuan or tourists visiting the island,” he said.
He said the refurbishment project encompasses various aspects of the terminal, including the waiting areas, ticket counters, restrooms, and other amenities.
“It will also address essential infrastructure improvements to ensure the terminal’s safety and efficiency.
“The project is being executed in a phased manner to minimise disruptions to daily operations and to expedite the completion timeline,” he said.
Noor Halim said the Labuan International Ferry Terminal is a vital gateway for residents and tourists, and this refurbishment is a testament to the commitment to improving the quality of service provided.
“The refurbished Labuan International Ferry Terminal is expected to become a more attractive and inviting facility for travellers, enhancing the overall experience of those passing through its gates.
“As the project progresses, commuters can look forward to a modern and welcoming environment that will further cement the terminal’s importance in connecting Labuan to the surrounding regions,” he said.
As the refurbishment project unfolds, updates on its progress will be made available to the public.
“LDA Holdings Sdn Bhd and the Labuan International Ferry Terminal management aim to complete this significant undertaking in early 2024, promising an improved and more appealing experience for all who utilize the terminal’s services,” he added.
