KUCHING: The Malaysia Day celebration should be expanded to all schools across the nation, thus helping build the spirit and respect of Malaysians towards the celebration.
Similar to how National Day is celebrated, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick,
said Malaysia Day should also be supported.
The United Progressive Kinabalu Organization (UPKO) president asserted that in addition to expanding the celebration of Malaysia Day at the school level, highlighting the Malaysia Agreement and the establishment of the Federation of Malaysia in the subject of history is also necessary to foster the true spirit of Malaysia.
“In the context of Sabah, as President of UPKO, I will continue to play a significant role in ensuring the successful implementation of the Malaysia Agreement, which is the basis of the establishment of this country.
“This includes our recommendation that the history subject be improved to highlight more filling or content related to the Malaysian Agreement and the history of the establishment of the Federation of Malaysia,” he said.
He said this in a media statement today, in conjunction with the Malaysia Day Celebration held in Kuching, Sarawak.
Ewon, who is also a Penampang MP and Kadamaian assemblyman, said that in the 60 years since the establishment of Malaysia, the country has achieved many successes in various sectors.
But we also admit that there are still many issues and challenges that we need to address, including economic and infrastructure development.”
“This development depends a lot on the extent to which we are able to unite, respect each other, and cooperate with each other as Malaysian citizens.”
“Thus, as the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, I hope that racial unity, cooperation, and harmony can continue to be strengthened so that the future of Malaysia will be more progressive,” he said.
