Suhaimi, who is also Sabah UMNO Information Chief, described the High Court’s decision as showing that Bung Moktar, the Sabah UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman, and his wife got due justice.

“Bung Moktar and his wife were given a fair chance to defend themselves against the corruption charges, which ended up being in their favour,” he said in a statement today.

Today, Bung Moktar, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kinabatangan, and his wife Zizie were released and acquitted by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on three charges of corruption amounting to RM2.8 million involving a RM150 million investment in a Public Mutual Berhad unit trust.

The judge, Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid, made the decision after allowing Bung Moktar and Zizie’s application to review the decision of the Sessions Court, which ordered them to defend themselves on September 2 last year.

Suhaimi said the court’s decision demonstrated the legal process and the principle that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

According to him, Bung Moktar and his wife cooperated, obeyed the implementation of the law, and defended themselves according to the existing laws.

He said that with the court’s decision, Bung Moktar can now focus on strengthening the struggle of Sabah UMNO and Central UMNO in facing the current political scenario.

“We in UMNO Sabah continue to support Bung Moktar’s leadership in whatever situation and challenges come our way because we are confident in his integrity,” said Suhaimi.
