Chairman of the UMS Board of Directors, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the establishment of the chair aims to conduct research and conservation activities to preserve, conserve, and develop the culture and arts of the Bajau Sama Group.

“With the chair, it can make sure that the culture, traditions, customs, and culture of Rumpun Bajau Sama will always remain and evolve with the times.

“Various types of activities and responsibilities will also be implemented through academic research and the organisation of programmes such as symposiums, seminars, workshops, and arts festivals,” he said in a statement here, on Sunday.

Rahman also expressed his appreciation to the Sabah State Government for the donation of RM10 million for the purpose of establishing the academic chair.

“The appointment of members of the Chair will be made in the near future.

“The selection of candidates is based on a high level of knowledge and understanding of the culture and traditions of the Bajau Sama tribe,” he explained.
