Its president, David Chan said it was time for B40 government employees to own affordable housing.

He said at present many houses were built at relatively expensive prices and this made it difficult for civil servants to own houses.

“Home is a very important basic need in human life today.

“The Sabah Smart Consumers Association knows that the GRS government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Hajiji is always concerned about the people’s need to get comfortable and affordable housing,” he said.

He said so in a media statement on Saturday.

He explained that the housing built will give priority to the group of households with the lowest 40 percent income (B40).

David added that the loan could also encourage government employees to work harder for the government and for the civil service.

The Consumers Association also hopes the private financial sector and bankers will consider extending the easy payment scheme to the low -income group, so that they too can own a home.

Meanwhile, David also welcomed the presentation of the 2022 Budget by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz yesterday who announced an allocation of RM1.5 billion to continue housing projects for the low-income group.

“RM2 billion for the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme to help those with no fixed income to buy a house,” he added.
