A Battle of Numbers On The Cards for New Prime Minister

KOTA KINABALU: As the closing time of 4pm is drawing nearer for MPs to submit their choice for the prime minister to Istana Negara, former Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said it is possible to have a new Prime Minister with a slim majority.

“It seems we are going through another process of voting for a new PM based on party choices.

“Again, this means it becomes a battle of numbers with probably another slim majority,” he said in his latest Facebook posting.

The former Sabah Chief Minister said he hoped for new “governance”, instead of a “mere political solution” to the current impasse.

“Let us wait for the decision by the YDPA (Yang di-Pertuan Agong),” he said.

The MPs are required to submit their choice for the prime minister to Istana Negara before 4pm today.

Yesterday, Barisan Nasional MPs said they had unanimously agreed to name Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob as their prime minister candidate, while the opposition bloc is banking on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to deliver the goods.
