Prioritise People’s Well Being in fscing Covid-19 Crisis

PENAMPANG: The well being of the people should be the main agenda in this Covid-19 crisis instead of replacing the government.

Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Youth Council chairman, Steve Mositun said focus should be given to resolving the health crisis brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and on post Covid-19 economic recovery effort.

“All parties should temporarily put aside their political interests and support the government’s readiness to forge inter-party understanding and cooperation. This is imperative to stabilise the current political crisis for the sake of the people’s well-being.

“Apart from that, replacing the government at this time does not guarantee the end of Covid-19 crisis, therefore it is better for all parties to be in the same team and work together for the people’s interests.

“This ‘political truce’ is not a mere rhetoric to enable the current government to remain in power because whether we like it or not, general election will be held by July 2022, as promised. That will be the time for the politicians to continue with their agendas, but now it is time to focus on the people.

“Almost all political leaders have been shouting that their struggles are for the people. If so, they should take this opportunity to form bipartisan cooperation,” he said in a statement here today.

According to Steve, this nation’s first bipartisan cooperation would allow all parties from both sides to sit together and consolidate their resources and ideas to bring Malaysia out of this Covid-19 crisis.

He said that the government’s willingness to work together with the opposition for the sake of the people is the best opportunity for all parties to convey the people’s aspirations that might not reach the government’s ears.

This, he said, would lead to a more stable political climate in the country which is important to ensure success in the nation’s recovery effort.

“If this bipartisan cooperation can be achieved, it would be time for PN government to consolidate the resources and focus on resolving the Covid-19 crisis and economic recovery”, he added.
