KOTA BELUD: The Covid-19 pandemic is not a barrier to achieve excellence and go for higher education, said former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He said that this is proven by the excellent achievement of many of students who have attained good results in the SPM 2020 examination although they have to adopt to the new ways of teaching and learning at their respective home (PdPR).
Salleh added that various challenges had to be faced to achieve success in the new PdPR approach.
“We are aware that the online learning system is a new norm that is challenging and requires high focus and determination. Most of the teaching and learning is carried out without the face-to-face approach. Instead the new PdPR approach is taken,” he said.
Salleh who is also Usukan Assemblyman said this in his speech during an SPM 2020 Excellence Appreciation ceremony for SMK Pekan II Kota Belud which was conducted online today.
Salleh also said that the nationwide implementation of the PdPR has presented challenges to teachers, students as well as to parents.
He added that to partake in online classes, students have to make preparation in terms of having the right gadgets, data plan and be self motivated.
And teachers have to adopt to the new system and use the technology and other mediums to impart knowledge to their students, Salleh said.
“Parents too must involve themselves in managing their children’s education at home and ensure they take part in the online and offline classes,” he said.
He added that this is not easy for parents as they have to take care of their own tasks while also manage their children’s education at home since both must be tackled together.
Salleh then said that he hoped the award and recognition of the excellent students in the 2020 SPM examination would spur teachers to be more dynamic, dedicated and motivated in giving their service.
He also hoped that the success will serve as a catalyst for students to work hard to achieve further excellence in the future.
Also present at the event were Kota Belud district Education officer, Mohd Fadzli Bin Abd Rozan, SMK Pekan II Kota Belud Principal Jainol Bin Sair and SMK Pekan II Kota Belud Parents-Teachers Association head, Masrin Bin Bedin @Pedin.
