PUTATAN: Community Development and Peoples Wellbeing Minister, Shahelmey Yahya assured that there is enough food supply in the market as the Chinese New Year festivity draws closer.
“There is no need to panic buy. We have enough food supply,” he said.
Shahelmey spoke to members of the media at Servay Putatan where he participated in the Maximum Price Scheme Walkabout programme held in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese celebration alongside the Sabah Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
He also said that the Indian red onions, which have been short in supply since last year is now available in the market.
“I have been informed that the supply is getting better,” he said.
He mentioned that due to the short supply of the commodity, a kilogramme of Indian red onions was sold at RM26 late last year.
On the Maximum Price Scheme, Shahelmey said that the scheme is enforced from February 8 to February 16.
He said that 16 items are controlled under the scheme in conjunction with the celebration.
The items are poultry, eggs, seafood, vegetables and pork related products.
