KINABATANGAN: The fighting spirit of the forefathers who fought for the country’s independence should be emulated and used as an inspiration in battling COVID-19, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
He said there were various ways for the people to show their patriotism under the new norm such as flying the Jalur Gemilang at their homes as well as practising self-discipline by complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs) prescribed to contain the outbreak.
“The spread of the COVID-19 outbreak should not be used as an excuse to forget the historic moment when the country achieved independence from the colonialists,” he said adding that the people should enliven National Day celebrations despite having to celebrate it under the new norm.
He said this in a statement in conjunction with the Jalur Gemilang distribution programme here today.
Bung Moktar said although the country is still battling the pandemic, National Day celebrations should be continued to show the unity of the people in an independent country.
We can disagree on many things, face various tests and the pandemic, but loyalty to the country and its independence are important matters,” he said.
