Datuk Dexter Lau plays a pivotal role in raising Sabah’s profile in the worldwide business community

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Dexter Lau, the dynamic leader of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah for more than a year, has managed to put Sabah in the spotlight internationally, particularly in the areas of business and trade.

Under the leadership and initiative of Datuk Dexter, MCCC Sabah has accomplished impressive feats quickly, particularly in enhancing economic collaboration between Sabah, Malaysia, and different regions in China.

In approximately two weeks, Datuk Dexter will lead a delegation of 100 MCCC Sabah members to Guangzhou, China, for a four-day business networking event starting on November 11.

The industrial visit in Guangzhou will see the participation of another delegation from the Sabah Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry, led by its minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar.

Delegates are expected to benefit greatly from the Industry Visit and Malaysia-China Business Networking Dinner in Guangzhou, as it offers direct interactions with representatives from the Chinese government, local companies, and business chambers, enhancing their understanding of industry advancements and market trends and broadening their business networks.

“This is the change we desire for MCCC Sabah. Datuk Dexter truly has a passion for elevating MCCC Sabah to a new era of excellence.

“I am confident that Datuk Dexter can further empower MCCC Sabah, thereby helping stimulate the state’s economic growth, similar to his success at KTC,” stated a member of the business council.

Datuk Dexter was also previously invited to give a keynote address at the High-Level Forum on ‘Trade Connectivity and Global Expansion’ during the 15th Malaysia-China Entrepreneur Conference in Guiyang, the capital of China’s Guizhou Province.

This highly esteemed gathering brought together almost 1,000 leaders from the government and business sectors, hailing from Malaysia, China, and various parts of the world.

In recent times, Datuk Dexter was specially invited to participate in the Myanmar-Malaysia High-Level Business Dialogue 2026, during which he had the chance to converse directly with Myanmar’s President, Min Aung Hlaing, and to highlight business opportunities and development potential in Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei.

Datuk Dexter, originally a lawyer by profession, is now more widely recognized as a leading corporate figure and entrepreneur in Sabah.

He is a qualified legal practitioner who graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) from the University of Kent, UK.

Datuk Dexter, 47, was subsequently recognized as a Barrister-at-Law at Lincoln’s Inn, London, and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak.

However, he chose to leave his legal career after approximately a year of service to join and lead the family business, KTC.

KTC is a highly renowned, publicly listed fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) mega-distributor in East Malaysia.
